Bangkok mass transit systems

Bangkok’s mass transit systems are safe, comfortable, reliable and convenient. Many of the city’s attractions are easily reached on either the BTS Skytrain or MRT underground, or both. The stations listed below are the closest to the hotel.

Nana BTS Skytrain Station

A 5 minute walk from Grand President.
The BTS Skytrain has two routes – Sukhumvit Line & Silom Line – which cover much of the central city areas. Trains run daily from 6 am – 12 pm midnight, with the schedule seeing trains run every few minutes during the day and more frequently during rush hour. (Click here for BTS Map)

Ticket Types:

Sukhumvit MRT Station

A 10 minute walk from Grand President or a one stop ride from Nana BTS Skytrain station. The 18 station subway line stretches 20 km from Hualamphong to Bang Sue. Trains run daily from 6 am – 12 pm midnight, with a frequency of under five minutes during peak hours and under 10 minutes during off peak hours. (Click here for MRT Map)

BANGKOK TAXIS

Metered air-con taxis are available around-the-clock. Flag fall is THB 35 (for the first 2 km) and the fare climbs in THB 2 increments. Tipping is not required but rounding up is common. For trips to/from the airport, expressway toll fees will be borne by the passenger.

Word of caution: Check with the driver that he intends on using the meter before getting in, and ensure that he turns it on once you are in.

BANGKOK TUK-TUKS

Locally known as 'samlor' these are three-wheeled taxis. Bargain the fare before hopping on board and beware of fares which seem too good to be true as this can be a way to lure you to overpriced souvenir or jewelry shops. The approximate cost for a short 10 minute ride is around THB 40 - 100.

BANGKOK BUSES

The city’s extensive and inexpensive public bus network ranges in price from THB 8 to THB 30 depending on the type of bus. Typically, destinations are given only in Thai and so it is advisable to obtain a bus route map (available at most hotels, Tourism Authority of Thailand offices and bookshops).
